learning from lorde
At Tulane University, there is a program called the Tenenbaum Tutorials that allows students to have a 1:1 mentorship opportunity with a member of Tulane’s staff. Each student then embarks on a semester long research project, along with an allotted $1,500 to support their research. I was one of less than 12 students picked to be apart of the Tenenbaum Tutorial during my fall semester of 2024. Working alongside Professor Rebecca Atencio, I created and followed a 15-week syllabus to framework my studies on author and feminist Audre Lorde. I also had the opportunity to travel to Atlanta, Georgia to visit the Audre Lorde archive at Spelman College. This research not only widened my educational perspective, but taught me life long lessons in the importance of vulnerability and self-expression. I decided to gather all of my personal thoughts and creative outputs I had during my time studying Lorde and create a zine with what I found most profound.
